Ben is known for high-level litigation, negotiation, and trial advocacy in restraining order, stalking protective order, criminal, and civil matters. He leverages his significant interpersonal and persuasive skills to win over judges and juries and achieves advantageous outcomes for his clients. He also prides himself on his ability to demystify the legal system for clients who need someone to give it to them straight and explain the law in plain terms.

Ben began honing his oratory skills in law school, where he was recognized as the “Best Oral Advocate” in the nation, beating out the best students from over 60 top law schools at the National Moot Court Competition. As an attorney, Ben has cultivated his advocacy skills into a successful practice, handling everything from high-profile criminal cases to civil restraining order and stalking protective order disputes.

Ben further developed his courtroom abilities when he was invited to the prestigious Dan Dantzler Trial Practice Institute in 2024. He has been selected by his peers as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for the past 3 years in a row, a designation reserved to the top 2.5% of the Oregon legal community. He is also a regular presenter to other attorneys on restraining orders and stalking protective orders in Oregon.

Anthony Chavez

Anthony Chavez is a trial attorney well regarded for his advocacy and commitment to protecting the rights of his clients. Before joining Scissors Law, he managed a full felony caseload as a public defender in Oregon’s most populous county. Anthony has significant experience in the courtroom, and has secured wins in a range of serious, high-stakes cases, including domestic violence, kidnapping and burglary. 

Anthony is known for his command of Oregon law, which he uses to find creative ways to win. When it comes to trial, he is always willing and ready to fight for his clients. Anthony also prides himself on his ability to connect with jurors and tell his clients’ stories. He understands that not every case will go to trial and ensures his clients fully understand their options so they can make sound decisions about how best to resolve their case. 

Anthony earned his undergraduate degree from Texas State University and his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law. Coming from a family of criminal defense attorneys, he has always been drawn to trial work and criminal defense. In addition to his practice, Anthony has presented a Continuing Legal Education seminar to other attorneys in the community on access to justice in Oregon. He approaches every case with the mindset of a trial lawyer, preparing diligently and fighting for the best possible result for all his clients.

Emmy holds a degree in criminology and peace studies from the University of New Mexico and has a background in mediation and social work. She has extensive work as a high-level paralegal working on major criminal cases, including having provided critical support to federal prosecutors with the Department of Justice, and Department of Juvenile Justice.  Emmy is well-versed in the procedural innerworkings of the justice system and is comfortable handling complex cases. Emmy also provides significant value to clients of Scissors Law, having worked previously at a family law firm on issues related to restraining orders, divorce, and custody.  Dedicated and skilled in mediation, Emmy is committed to supporting clients through challenges with clarity, compassion, and unwavering support.

For nearly 40 years, Steven Ungar has represented individuals and companies, in governmental investigations and prosecutions, as well as corporate investigations. He specializes in defending those accused of white collar crimes such as RICO, tax evasion, securities fraud and regulatory offenses. Steven is also the go-to lawyer for advising Native American tribes facing regulation of their internal affairs. While at home in high profile cases, focusing on crisis management, Steven is equally adept at behind-the-scenes defense strategies, and if preferred, avoiding the front-page. Steven was appointed by two Governors to serve as Chairman of the Oregon Lottery Commission, from 2005 to 2012. He was General Counsel to a prominent public company in the software, gaming and lottery industries. Steven has been voted one of the “Best Lawyers in America” and an “Oregon Super Lawyer” by his peers.
